Where did everything come from?

Today entirely out of the blue, as we were just hanging out in the afternoon, Bria said "Mom, where did everything come from?"

I wasn't sure what she meant so I asked her, and she said "Like, who made everything? Where did all the things and all the trees and all the houses and everything come from?" And big round all-encompassing hand gestures. And I glanced over at Josh like "does she really mean where did the world come from?" She really did.

I think that is so cool that her mind even went there. She is not even four yet and her thought process just astounds me every day. To be able to think in the abstract that way - just to recognize that everything had to come from somewhere is enough, but to then wonder where... sometimes even I don't give kids enough credit, and I tend to think kids are pretty smart.

I explained that there are two main ideas - creation and the big bang, and gave her the kid versions of each. (BTW, coming up with the kid versions of origin theories on the spot is a feat in itself. Phew!)

Then I asked her which one she thought was true. She shrugged and said she didn't know. I told her "Nobody knows. They're just ideas about what might have happened, and everybody gets to decide what they think." And she thought that was pretty cool, too.

In conclusion, Bria's awesome.

Long Time

Well, it's been a long long time since I posted here. I guess it's having a bit of a scrapping bug that got me thinking I should do a personal blog, so I can ramble on about things nobody really cares about!

Something cute from tonight:

Most nights, I put Bria to bed, and then just as I get to the top of the stairway, she yells "Mommy!" and then I go back to her room and it's another five minutes of stalling. Tonight as I was walking down the hallway, I started the countdown to Bria yelling - 5, 4, 3, 2, 1... and then she yelled. But she didn't yell "Mommy!" She yelled "Good night" so I yelled "Good night back" and then she yelled "I Love You!" and for a second I thought about going back to her room, but I thought better of it and just yelled "I Love You" back.
